Here are some photos from the Riesling harvest.
Two of the 70 odd picking bins that were filled that Saturday.
Brothers Dave (center) and Bill (right) DeGan.
They are revitalizing a vineyard over in Chico Texas.
The picking bins being loaded onto the truck for transport to the
Winery where the will be crushed.
Ooops. Forgot to put the screen into the de-stemmer portion. What
went through was re-cycled.
A niece and nephew transfer the crushed must to the press. Les
Constable (the Winemaker at Brushy
Creek, back center) and myself (right) watching the progress. This
press requires 1000 pounds minimum
to operate, fortunatly we had over 1270 pounds this day.
Of course one neice had to show off with the press.
This is the Golden nectar that everyone worked so hard for that day.
And when all is said and done, all you have is this dry mound of skins
and seeds called a cake.
